Double Cross is a head to head race against another car. The bracket will proceed by single elimination until an over all winner, 2nd place and 3rd place drivers are identified. Test runs on the course will be allowed as time permits until 12:00 PM at which point the official competition will begin.
The Double Cross course is comprised of a tarmac course where each driver starts at the same time. The driver on the inside track will complete a lap and then proceed to the outside track while his/her opponent will first drive the outside loop and then proceed to the inner loop. Both drivers effectively drive the same distance but neither car will be in danger of making contact with the other during this head to head race. Winning is simple, just finish both laps before the other driver can! Timing will not be offered.
It is possible to have your car in the car show in addition to racing Double Cross but be advised that it is your responsibility to locate the car show judges and be sure they judge your vehicle before 2pm. The judges will not attempt to find your car if it isn’t parked in the car show, so you’ll need to bring them to your vehicle. Also, understand that it’s likely your car won’t be as clean as it could due to racing and you may not score full points for cleanliness in the car show as a result.
You and a friend or family member may co-drive the same vehicle. Both parties must register separately at full price for Double Cross. Both parties must also complete a tech inspection of the vehicle and turn in the required form (see below).
A completed tech self-inspection (MANDATORY) must be filled out. This year you may fill out this form ahead of time online HERE. Be sure to have your order number handy so we can link it to your entry. Vehicles failing to meet safety standards on day of event will be disqualified from participation. Please note that you will also be required to wear a DOT approved helmet during driving activities. A limited number of helmets will be available for rental at the event. Refunds will not be issued, so be sure you take the inspection seriously. If the form above will not work for some reason, you may also print and fill out the old tech form below.
All drivers participating in Double Cross must purchase registration and complete a tech card. Driver's may co-drive the same car but must still register separately.
Think you got game? Or maybe just want to settle that long standing argument with your buddy? Growl Fest will have an outlet for your thirst to conquer. Drag racing is included with either Car Show or Double Cross registration. Our drag event will pit you against whomever is willing to throw-down throughout the day. All registered drivers may compete against one another on PPIR's eighth mile drag strip. There are no prizes for the informal racing, but we know that no prize we could offer will compare to the boost your ego will get when you spank your buddy's heap on the track! Drag racing will take place for the duration of the event but will shut down at 2:30 PM when the awards start.
You're welcome to drag race whenever you feel like it throughout the day. This will be an informal arrangement, you simply put your car in grid for drag racing. You must attend the driver's meeting and complete tech inspection. This will be a great way to pass the time if you are eliminated from the Double Cross event.
Though there is no additional cost to compete in drag racing, drivers must still complete a registration form, liability waiver and fill out a Tech Form for their vehicle. The online form is new this year and must be completed prior to race day. You may also print and turn in the paper form if for some reason the online one doesn’t work for you. Drivers will be required to wear a DOT approved helmet during driving events. If you don't have one, a limited number of helmets will be available for rent at the event.
The car show component of Growl Fest is intended to have a casual atmosphere where you can catch up with old friends, make new ones and maybe get a little drool on the hood of your friend's ride.
With the exception of the Off-Road Prepared category, each of these classes are judged on similar criteria. This is a car show, so cleanliness counts. There are several factors that are taken into account during the judging process. Check out this guide for helping you score the best you can. TLDR version- quality of installation, cleanliness, creativity, innovation are what counts. Anyone can drop money on a project (if they have the dough) but what really scores points are interesting concepts and obvious effort put into your project. Mods installed with skill and precision will score more points than items sloppily bolted on. Our judges want to see that you bled your passion into this car.
Got an FA20 swapped Subaru 360? This is where you'll enter it. All models from this year range are welcome in this class.
Classic. Simple. Awesome. Enter this category for 2002 to 2007 Subaru vehicles of all models.
Look at you and your fancy 15+ Subaru! Enter this category if you have a late model car you'd like to show off. This is also a category for BRZ and FRS vehicles. In the future, if we have enough of the 2WD cars, we'll add a category for them.
Subaru all grown-up. Let's see what your mid-era Subaru looks like.
This category is for Subarus that are modified for tackling tough terrain, prepared for off-piste racing or recreatonal use. Bonus points for creativty and uniqueness. This is the one category where cleanliness and finish is weighted at a lesser degree so bring on the primer and rock chips. Instead we’ll harshly judge your welding chops, and safety wire twisting ability.
We use the Chariotz Judge system for our car show. Spectators and participants are advised to download the Chariotz app. You can use the Chariotz app to scan the QR code on each car to learn more about the vehicle and "like" the cars you think stand out.
There is no charge to come and spectate at Growl Fest. Bring your friends and family, make it a day. There is no need to register as a spectator but you'll need to sign a liability waiver upon entering the PPIR facility. You can stay as long as you like and watch the racing, jackassery and car show.
